Lymph Drainage Therapy

The often overlooked Lymphatic System plays a huge part in the bodies ability to drain stagnant fluids; regenerate tissues; filter out toxins & foreign substances as well as maintain a healthy immune system.

Between 2 and 4 liters of fluid are processed by the Lymphatic system on a daily basis. In a healthy Lymphatic System, a complex system of lymph vessels and nodes process this fluid which helps to remove the stagnant fluids, bacteria, toxins, and other bad elements that are in the spaces between cells.

Anterior Body Lymph Vessels

The vessels that pump the lymph can be hindered or stopped due to surgery, trauma, burns, infections, substantial swelling, fatigue, stress or even age.  When the lymph flow becomes hindered or stopped, stagnant fluids, bacteria, toxins and other bad elements will remain in the body and could cause illness.

Lymph Drainage Therapy is an original hands-on method of lymphatic drainage developed by Bruno Chikly, MD, DO (hon.). Created out of his research on the lymphatic system, LDT takes traditional lymph drainage techniques and adds a new level of precision in keeping with the latest scientific discoveries and exact anatomical science.

Using gentle maneuvers, a Lymph Drainage Therapist facilitates movement in the lymphatic vessels causing a vacuum effect so that the volume and frequency of lymphatic fluid processed is greatly increased. Using these techniques, a trained therapist is able to detect the specific rhythm, direction, depth and quality of the lymph flow anywhere in the body. From there, they may use their hands to perform Manual Lymphatic mapping of the vessels to assess the overall direction of lymphatic circulation, areas of stagnation, and the best alternate pathways for draining lymph and other bodily fluids.

CranioSacral Therapy

CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.

Visceral Manipulation

Visceral Manipulation is a manual therapy consisting of gentle, specifically placed manual forces that encourage normal mobility, tone and inherent tissue motion of the viscera, their connective tissue and other areas of the body.

Our bodies need movement to be healthy.  This same principle applies to every structure in our bodies including the viscera.  For an organ to be healthy and have optimal function there needs to be motion.

Tissues lose their normal motion when they become inflamed.  The natural healing process involves local disruption of normal tissue fibers and their replacement with relatively inelastic granular tissue.  It can be conceptualized as a localized drying-out of the affected tissues.  Many factors can cause tissue inflammation including: infections, direct trauma, repetitious movement, diet, environmental toxins and emotional stress.

Kinesiotaping

Made of cotton and elastic fibers with medical grade adhesive, Kinesiotape molds to the skin easily and may be worn for extended periods of time (usually 3-5 days) with good skin tolerance.  You can bathe, swim or even run a marathon while wearing it.  Based on the location, stretch and direction of application, it is used on fascia, muscle, tendons, ligaments and more.  You can feel the gentle effects almost immediately upon application.

Though we are exposed to it mostly through sports figures, 85% of the usage is non-sports related.  It can be used to treat: muscle imbalance, postural issues, circulatory and lymphatic conditions (my bruise), ligament, tendon and joint injuries (my knee), scars, and pathological movement patterns (my shoulder) and so much more.

Many athletes, including Serena Williams, David Beckham and many Olympic athletes use it for many different reasons (stabilizing joints, helping repetitive use injuries to heal, etc.

It comes in white, beige, black, red and blue.  The main difference between the colors (besides being a conversation starter), is that the darker the color, the stronger the adhesive.

An application is usually a quick process and it can be added to any bodywork session or applied on its own.  If you are a new client, I prefer that it is applied as part of a bodywork session as it is important for me to understand just what is going on with your body.  The cost includes the tape and my time.

($20 per 15-minute application - includes the cost of the tape)
